Jon C. Vanyo joined MnTAP in May of 2014 with a background in Aeronautical and Mechanical Engineering. His goal is to maximize efficiency while promoting sustainability and pollution prevention. Jon’s current focus is on VOC reduction; he is analyzing TRI data to find companies that may be interested in reducing their use of various toxic chemicals. Ideally the usage of these chemicals will be reduced by improving or optimizing processes, substituting hazardous chemicals for more environmentally friendly products, or by rendering the hazardous chemicals unnecessary by more environmentally friendly processes. The ultimate goal of the project is to decrease the amount of harmful chemicals being emitted into the breathing air of Minnesota. Jon is also mentoring a MnTAP intern conducting a project on reducing water and power usage at GE. Jon hopes to make his home state of Minnesota a cleaner, more efficient, and more pleasant place to live.
