MnTAP’s Annual Reports

Each year MnTAP publishes IMPACT, an Environmental Benefits Report, which highlights our activities and success. This report is submitted to the MPCA.

Over the course of the year, 442 businesses across the state received assistance from MnTAP engineers and scientists; 53 facilities have implemented 75 MnTAP recommended process changes and realized reductions totaling 14 million gallons of water, 2.1 million pounds of waste, 13.8 million kWh and 506,600 therms of energy. Combined, these reductions are saving companies $2 million annually. The 2023 IMPACT summarizes the robust results and recommendations made to help businesses curb waste and lower operating costs.

Over the course of the year, 430 businesses across the state received assistance from MnTAP engineers and scientists; 52 facilities have implemented 77 MnTAP recommended process changes and realized reductions totaling 28.9 million gallons of water, 500,000 pounds of waste, 5.4 million kWh and 136,700 therms of energy. Combined, these reductions are saving companies $1.27 million annually. Over the course of the year, 360 businesses across the state received assistance from MnTAP engineers and scientists; 41 facilities have implemented 107 MnTAP recommended process changes and realized reductions totaling 38.3 million gallons of water, 298,300 pounds of waste, 10.8 million kWh and 68,900 therms of energy. 2020 IMPACT

Remote work restrictions, distancing requirements and general business slowdowns caused
by the COVID-19 pandemic led MnTAP to reinvent its approach to delivering technical
assistance services to Minnesota businesses. Despite the challenges, over the course of the year, nearly 400 businesses across the state received assistance from MnTAP engineers and scientists; 31 facilities have implemented 40 MnTAP recommended process changes and realized reductions totaling nearly 8.1 million gallons of water, 877,700 pounds of waste, 1.2 million kWh and 23,400 therms of energy. Combined, these reductions are saving companies $1.1 million annually. The 2020 IMPACT summarizes the robust results and recommendations made to help businesses curb waste and lower operating costs.

MnTAP celebrated a milestone anniversary in 2019 – 35 years of providing high quality technical assistance to industrial facilities across Minnesota! Celebrating MnTAP’s past achievements, looking forward to projects designed to help Minnesota businesses improve their environmental and sustainability performance along with designing an anniversary logo dotted the highlights for the year. Outcomes include, assistance provided to over 400 organizations across the state with 124 site visits to 78 unique facilities. Fifty-five facilities have implemented 95 MnTAP recommended process changes and realized reductions total over 29.5 million gallons of water, 503,000 pounds of waste, 6.1 million kWh and 55,000 therms of energy. Combined, these reductions are saving companies $1.1 million annually.

The implemented waste, energy and water conservation resulting from MnTAP efforts has resulted in an impressive set of environmental outcomes for the calendar year 2016. Over the course of the year, 279 businesses across the state received assistance from MnTAP engineers and scientists, 56 companies have implemented 124 MnTAP recommended process changes. As a result of these interactions, 56 companies have realized reductions totaling 1.4 million pounds of waste, 1.7 million kWh and 42,000 thousand therms of energy and have conserved 45.3 million gallons of water. Combined, these reductions add up to first year savings of $1.3 million annually.

2015 Environmental Benefits Report

The implemented waste, energy and water conservation resulting from MnTAP efforts has resulted in an impressive set of environmental outcomes for the calendar year 2015. MnTAP staff conducted over 970 assistance activities with over 245 Minnesota companies, including 144 site visits and team meetings and 13 intern projects. As a result of these interactions, 56 companies have realized reductions totaling 503,000 pounds of waste, 2.3 million kWh and 238,000 thousand therms of energy and have conserved 23.7 million gallons of water. Combined, these reductions add up to first year savings of $922,000 annually.

The implemented waste, energy and water conservation resulting from MnTAP efforts has resulted in an impressive set of environmental outcomes for the calendar year 2014. MnTAP staff conducted over 800 assistance activities with over 250 Minnesota companies, including 120 site visits and team meetings and 11 intern projects. As a result of these interactions, 30 companies have realized reductions totaling 338,600 pounds of waste, 6.2 million kWh and 440,000 thousand therms of energy and have conserved 26.6 million gallons of water. Combined, these reductions add up to first year savings of $1 million annually.

The implemented waste, energy and water conservation resulting from MnTAP efforts has resulted in an impressive set of environmental outcomes for the calendar year 2013. MnTAP staff conducted over 700 assistance activities with over 200 Minnesota companies, including 100 site visits and team meetings and 11 intern projects. As a result of these interactions, 42 companies have realized reductions totaling over 1 million pounds of waste, 6.2 million kWh and over 400,000 thousand therms of energy and have conserved 50 million gallons of water. Combined, these reductions add up to first year savings of $1.2 million annually.

2012 Environmental Benefits Report

Through 700 interactions, MnTAP staff have been able to assist over 280 organizations during the calendar year 2012. This includes site visits to 82 companies as part of a technical assistance assessment, intern project, or team. There have been 44 companies who reported making changes to their processes that reduce their environmental footprint and save money. Companies that have implemented recommendations made by MnTAP are saving nearly $2 million in first year savings. These savings are split roughly equivalently for the three primary assistance methods, site visits, interns, and company teams.

2011 Environmental Benefits Report

Through site visits, teams, interns, and phone calls/email, MnTAP’s staff of ten were able to assist nearly 230 companies and to engage 40 in making changes that reduce their environmental footprint and save money in 2011. Companies that have worked with MnTAP are saving approximately $3.1 million annually. Over 43% of the savings stem from site visits, 35% from the intern program, and 22% from companies with MnTAP-supported internal teams.

2010 EBR

2010 Environmental Benefits Report

In 2010, MnTAP staff assisted more than 120 companies in Minnesota; more than 25 of those companies were able to implement cost saving pollution prevention and energy efficiency measures that resulted in more than $1.3 million in first-year savings. Overall, the companies that implemented the suggestions from MnTAP assistance realized environmental reductions of 163,000 pounds of waste, 17 million gallons of water, 3.5 million kWh, and 307,000 therms. Over the past five years, MnTAP has helped companies achieve over $8 million in first-year savings.
