Areas of Assistance:

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Ethanol Industry
  • Steam Systems

Good Questions to Ask Nancy:

  • What type of steam trap assessment program is most appropriate for my facility? And, what is the potential energy savings I might achieve with a proactive steam trap management program? How do I implement a steam trap assessment program in my facility?
  • What type of benchmarking is most appropriate for my facility? And, are there specific industry benchmarks that I can use as a reference for my facility?
  • What are the greatest opportunities for achieving energy efficiency in food processing sectors?

Related Work Experience:

  • 12 years working in engineering and management in a coal plant at Northern States Power Company
  • 8 years working as a senior project manager at Golder Associates, Inc.

Associations:

  • Association of Energy Engineers

Nancy has extensive experience working with energy facilities on operation and maintenance issues. Nancy is focusing much of her work towards steam systems assessment and identification of opportunities for energy conservation. She has worked with facilities to conduct steam trap assessments and learn how to use trap testing instruments. She has prepared economic analysis of various steam trap monitoring programs.

Nancy recently completed a benchmarking and best practices study of 14 Minnesota dry mill ethanol facilities based on 2006 operating data. The study provides an overview of the production process, highlighting where significant energy or water use occurs, and the potential environmental impacts related to production. This report highlighted that there are significant opportunities for process improvement at ethanol facilities. In the summer of 2008, Nancy will be supervising two intern projects at ethanol facilities. One project is focused on reduced energy use and the other on reduced water use.
