GreenGuardian.com Formerly the Resourceful Waste Management Guide, the business section of GreenGuardian.com includes information on waste reduction, recycling and proper disposal. The guide was produced for the seven Twin Cities metropolitan counties by Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board (SWMCB).

Recycling Markets Directory This online database lists end-users, processors, brokers, recycling facilities and haulers of recyclables. The markets in this database accept large (commercial) quantities of materials. Find information on companies in Minnesota that collect, process, consolidate, buy and sell commercial quantities of materials for recycling.

Reusable Transport Packaging Directory Developed by the Office of Environmental Assistance, this directory lists manufacturers and suppliers of many types of reusable transport packaging.

Minnesota Business Assistance Provider Sites
Manufacturers Alliance Provides peer-to-peer training, education and resources which allow Minnesota-based manufacturers to continuously grow, improve and stay competitive.

Minnesota Department of Commerce—Energy Information Center Recommends options for lighting, electric use, hot water, refrigeration and other energy conservation measures.

Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) Works to create jobs, focusing on small and medium-sized businesses. Administers several grant and loan programs to assist businesses with start-up or expansion costs.

Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) Commercial Vehicle Operations Unit Provides training and information on DOT hazardous materials shipping requirements, including: containers, describing and documenting waste, and labeling. Registers transporters and shippers of hazardous materials and hazardous waste.

Minnesota Pollution Control Agency Provides information and assistance on environmental issues, including use of pollution prevention practices to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations involving air quality, surface and groundwater, and solid and hazardous waste.

  • Customer Assistance Center MPCA staff can answer your questions about environmental regulations affecting air quality, hazardous waste, storage tank regulations and water quality in Minnesota. Call 651/297-2274 or 800/646-6247.
  • Minnesota RETAP Provides technical assistance from retired engineers, scientists, and managers. RETAP focuses on the non-manufacturing commercial and service sectors. A team of two to three retirees can provide a facility-wide assessment looking for ways to prevent pollution, minimize waste and improve the energy efficiency of your operations. A written report is provided four to six weeks after the team's
    assessment.
  • Small Business Environmental Assistance Program SBEAP is a nonregulatory unit at the MPCA that helps small businesses prepare permit applications and comply with federal and state regulations, including air, hazardous waste, water and tanks.

Minnesota Technology, Inc. (MTI) Assists Minnesota manufacturing companies with becoming more competitive through technology information and assistance, product/process improvements—including pollution prevention options—and modernization. A nonprofit corporation.

  • MTI offers lean manufacturing consulting and training to eliminate waste, shorten lead times, improve quality, reduce inventory and raise on-time shipment levels.

Minnesota Waste Wise Works to increase waste prevention and recycling among businesses, nonprofit and government organizations. A voluntary program affiliated with the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.

Enviro$en$e Electronic library of regulatory data and educational information related to P2 technical assistance, federal facilities environmental compliance and enforcement, training opportunities and funding information.

Great Lakes Regional Pollution Prevention Roundtable GLRPPR is a professional organization dedicated to promoting information exchange and networking to P2 professionals in the U.S. states bordering the Great Lakes and Ontario, Canada.

National Pollution Prevention Roundtable NPPR is the largest membership organization in the United States devoted solely to pollution prevention (P2). NPPR provides a global forum for promoting the development, implementation and evaluation of efforts to avoid eliminate or reduce pollution at the source.

Small Business Development Centers Provide business planning assistance to small businesses around the state. Eight regional and 14 subcenter offices.

Workplace Safety Consultation Assists employers with identifying and correcting health and safety hazards, through on-site consultations followed by comprehensive written reports with findings and recommendations. This Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) program requires proof of hazards correction.

Bridges=Minnesota's Environmental Information Search
Bridges is developed with the collaboration of Minnesota state government environmental agencies to facilitate access to the rich and diverse environmental information in electronic format in Minnesota.

ChemAlliance is a free pollution prevention and compliance assistance resource developed for and by the Chemical Process Industries. It provides information for improving the environmental and economic performance of facilities involved with the manufacture and distribution of chemical products.

Environmental Health Sciences The University of Minnesota's center for environmental health science research. MnTAP is part of this division at the University.

Greenbiz.com This new site describes itself as “The Resource Center on Business, the Environment, and the Bottom Line.” Produced by the nonprofit Green Business Network, it offers a wide range of news and resources to help companies of all sizes integrate environmental thinking into their operations. All of its resources are free. Key features of the site include: a business toolbox (containing tools, reports, and many how-to items), a reference desk with a wide range of links (including 84 business environmental award programs), and a news center. GreenBiz.com also offers a free biweekly e-mail newsletter.

Institute for Local Self Reliance (ILSR) ILSR is a nonprofit research and educational organization that provides technical assistance and information on environmentally sound economic development strategies.

SEEK = Sharing Environmental Education Knowledge Electronic library of environmental education resources.

Technical Assistance Resources for Pollution Prevention (TARP2) A resource tool designed by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. Provides links to endless number of P2 and industry-specific Web sites.
