Financial Assistance

Not having the financial resources to implement projects can be a barrier to pollution prevention. The following resources, including grant and loan programs, may provide you the financial assistance you need to make improvements in your facility.

Grants
Environmental Grants The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency makes funds available to businesses and organizations in Minnesota for environmental projects that meet one of its priority strategic goals.

Grants.gov allows organizations to electronically find and apply for grants from all 26 Federal grant-making agencies.

MTI Grants under the Growth Acceleration Program (GAP) manufacturers with fewer than 100 employees can receive up to $25,000 per year toward projects intended to enhance the operation of a small manufacturing, manufacturing-related, or service company. The business must match any GAP money awarded.

Loans
Environmental Assistance Loan Program The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Technology, Education and Assistance Division is partnering with lending institutions to offer loans for half the prevailing interest rate to purchase market-ready pollution prevention technologies. Fifty percent of the loan funds are supplied by the lending institution at market rate and the remaining half is supplied by the MPCA at zero percent. Contact Mary James Baker, MPCA, 651/215-0194.

Minneapolis Department of Community Planning and Economic Development (CPED) Minneapolis business owners looking for financial assistance to start or expand your business can get assistance with financing. CPED helps Minneapolis businesses locate affordable business financing. Several low interest loan programs are available.

Ramsey County Business Loan Program Ramsey County offers gap financing to for-profit commercial, industrial or service start ups or expanding businesses located in or moving to Ramsey County. Loans may be made for capital equipment.

Small Business Development Loan Program Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED). For established manufacturers with fixed asset expansion costs in excess of $1 million and adding a substantial number of new jobs. Through industrial development bonds, the Agricultural and Economic Development Board can support a loan at below market interest rates. DEED also sponsors other financial assistance programs.

Small Business Environmental Improvement Loan Program Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Small Business Ombudsman. The MPCA offers this loan program as a means to help small businesses help themselves with environmental projects.

  • Fiberglas Fabricators used the loan program to purchase nonatomized equipment to replace spray equipment in open mold process and added raw material monitoring equipment.

U.S. Small Business Administration The SBA offers numerous financing programs for small businesses. Learn the basics of financing and how to connect with SBA partners. For information on local SBA resource providers see the US SBA - Minneapolis Office.
