Awards
MnTAP encourages businesses
to get recognition for going above and beyond in how
they operate their businesses. Listed below are select
awards for business that have made environmental improvements
and for those that operate using best practices overall.

Environmental
Awards
Clean
Air Excellence Awards Program This U.S. EPA program
honors outstanding, innovative efforts that support
progress in achieving cleaner air. Open to both public
and private entities in the United States, the program
offers awards in the following seven categories: clean
air technology, community development/re-development,
education/outreach, regulatory/policy innovations, transportation
efficiency innovations, and outstanding individual achievement.
Past application deadline: September.
Environmental Initiative Awards Minnesota Environmental
Initiative. This member-supported
nonprofit organization works with business, government
and advocacy groups to promote environmental excellence
in policy, industrial management, land use and energy
generation and use. Recognizes companies and organizations
that have taken the lead in executing substantial changes
in response to pressing environmental issues.
Governor's
Awards for Excellence in Waste and Pollution Prevention recognize public and private organizations that go beyond traditional waste management practices, demonstrating a superior commitment to waste and pollution prevention, source reduction and resource conservation. Awarded by the governor and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
Green
Star Award Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Environmental
Auditing Program. If a participant successfully meets
the requirements of the Environmental Audit Program,
a "Green Star" Award may be displayed for
two years at the facility audited. This program encourages
industries, businesses, and governments to examine how
well a facility's operations are complying with local,
state, and federal environmental regulations, and correct
any problems that are identified.
Hospitals
for a Healthy Environment (H2E) H2E recognizes the
efforts and achievements of partner health care facilities
and supporters of H2E with national recognition. The
H2E is a voluntary program designed to help hospitals
enhance work place safety, reduce waste and waste disposal
costs and become better environmental stewards and neighbors.
The award categories are Recognition, Making Medicine
Mercury-Free Award, Partners for Change Award, Environmental
Leadership Award and Champion for Change Award.
Industrial
Environmental Achievement Award Central States Water
Environment Association gives this award to one industry
per year in recognition of outstanding contributions
is waste minimization, pollution prevention, environmental
compliance, and environmental stewardship.
Minnesota
Waste Wise Environmental Leader Award The Minnesota
Waste Wise Leader Award is the highest award given to
the Minnesota Waste Wise members. It was created in
1994 to commend those businesses that have put a special
effort into waste prevention, reuse and recycle.
Most
Valuable Pollution Prevention Awards (MVP2 Award)
National Pollution Prevention Roundtable. MVP2 awards
recognize innovative industrial, regulatory and non-regulatory
pollution prevention (P2) projects and initiatives.
The MVP2 Awards are open to all levels of government,
industry and non-profits. Programs from government agencies,
academic institutions, private industry, NGO's as well
as individuals are eligible.
The
National Recycling Coalition (NRC) NRC's Annual
Awards honor businesses, citizens, communities and schools
for their outstanding waste reduction and recycling
achievements.
Plymouth Environmental Champion
Award Program recognizes an individual, organization
or business that has demonstrated outstanding environmental
stewardship. Businesses can earn recognition for conservation,
reduction

Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards These U.S. EPA awards recognize innovative chemical technologies that incorporate green chemistry into chemical design, manufacture and use -- and that have broad applications in industry. Nominated technologies should reduce or eliminate the use or generation of hazardous substances from a chemical product or process. Past application deadline: December.
Recycling
Association of Minnesota Every year, RAM recognizes
the efforts of recyclers in the state at its fall conference.
U.S.
EPA WasteWise Awards Program Each year, EPA recognizes
outstanding achievements of its partners by presenting
"Partner of the Year" awards in several categories,
including business, government, and educational sectors.
To qualify, partners must submit complete annual reporting
forms that detail tonnage of waste reduced, associated
cost savings, and promotion of the WasteWise program
to employees, customers, and suppliers.
Performance
Awards
Manufacturer
of the Year Awards Manufacturers Alliance recognizes
manufacturers that exhibit openness in sharing their
experiences with fellow manufacturers in a cooperative
fashion, and that actively pursue improvements and openly
share their knowledge.
Malcolm
Baldrige National Quality Award US Commerce Department's
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The Baldrige Award is given by the President of the
United States to businesses-manufacturing and service,
small and large-and to education and health care organizations
that apply and are judged to be outstanding in seven
areas: leadership, strategic planning, customer and
market focus, information and analysis, human resource
focus, process management, and business results.
Minnesota
Safety Council sponsors the Governor's Safety Awards
Program to recognize excellence in accident prevention
efforts by employers, communities and state departments.
Minnesota
Tekne Award Minnesota High Tech Association and
Minnesota Technology, Inc., recognize innovation, development,
commercialization, and management of technology in Minnesota.
