Livestock producers accepting food by-products

Food by-products may be used as livestock feed. The livestock producer must have one of two types of permits from the Minnesota Board of Animal Health exempt materials or garbage feeder.

MnTAP maintains the following lists of exempt materials and garbage feeder permit holders solely as a service to Minnesota companies. These may not be complete lists and do not represent an endorsement by MnTAP. MnTAP, by providing the lists, does not guarantee that the services do or do not comply with environmental and safety laws. You may want to verify current permit status with the Minnesota Board of Animal Health 651.296.2942.

Exempt Materials Permit Holder

Non-meat food by-products must have had no possibility of coming into contact with meat for an exempt materials permit holder to accept it.

Garbage Feeder Permit Holders (meat and non-meat)

Permit holders can accept meat by-products and other food by-products that may have come into contact with meat. For example, produce from a supermarket can only be given to a garbage feeder permit holder. Because meat is also at the supermarket, produce may have come in contact with it.
